G81 and G82 Canned Cycle
G81 is the canned cycle used for making through holes using the drilling operation. Typical operation of a G81 cycle is shown in Figure 14. The format of the G81 block is shown below:
The other cycles are also similar in application. For example G82 (Figure 5.16) is used for drilling blind holes or other operations where the cutting tool will not be breaking through the material. The operations such as counter boring and counter sinking make use of this code. The tool when it reaches the end of the depth would dwell for a specified time (about 1 to 2 seconds) to clean the surface and get an accurate depth. The dwell time can be either built in the code or specified through a word address such as P.
