Construction Practices
Bricks are bedded within and jointed along with mortar. The bricks are laid to any specific pattern called as bonds. The basic object of bond is to provide maximum strength to the masonry and ensure equitable distribution of load. The vertical joints of successive layers of brickwork are staggered within bonded walls and the pattern provides an attractive appearance to the wall face.
The several types of bonds used in brick masonry are as display below.
The generally used bonds are the English bond and the Flemish bond that are described below.
