Total consumption burner:

A total consumption burner merges the functions of nebuliser and burner. Within this kind of burner, the suction created through the compressed oxidant streaming past the inner capillary, introduces a sample straight into the flame even if it involved suspended particles or large solvent droplets; therefore the name "total consumption burner".

Here the oxidant and fuel emerge from separate ports and are mixed above the burner orifices by their turbulent motion. The flame generates through such a burner is turbulent. Since the aspirated the sample solution as like is put within the flame, IUPAC recommends the term direct-injection burner in place of total consumption burner.
