Instrumentation for Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry:

You have learnt above which in AAS the absorption of resonant radiation through ground state atoms of the analyte is used as the analytical signal. Therefore, a source delivering the features resonant radiation of the analyte is needed along with an atom reservoir into that the analyte is introduced and atomised. The basic requirements of atomic absorption spectrophotometer instrument are same to any regular spectrophotometer; a sample holder cell being replaced through a flame or a few other atomiser. A classic atomic absorption spectrophotometer consists of the subsequent components.

  • Radiation source
  • Atom reservoir
  • Monochromator
  • Detector
  • Readout device
