Travel Speed:
Travel speed influenced both the width and penetration of a gas tungsten arc weld. However, its influence on width is more pronounced than that on penetration. Travel speed is significant due to its effect on cost. In some applications, travel speed is described as an objective, with the other variables decided to achieve the desired weld configuration at that speed. In other cases, travel may be a dependent variable, selected to achieved the weld quality and uniformity required under the best conditions possible with the other combination of variables. Generally regardless of the objectives, travel speed is fixed in echanised welding while other variables such like current or voltage are varied to maintain control of the weld.
