The power source selected for a submerged arc welding system plays a vital operating role. Several kinds of power supply are appropriate for submerged arc welding. A dc power supply might be a transformer-rectifier or a motor or engine generator, which will provide a constant current (CC), constant voltage (CV), or a selectable CV/CC output. Generally AC power supplies are transformer types, and might provide either a CC output or a CV square wave output. Because generally SAW is a high-current process with high-duty cycle, a power supply able of providing high amperage at 100 % duty cycle is suggested.
