Shielded Metal Arc Cutting (SMAC):
Electric arc procedure with covered metal electrodes might also be used to eliminate the metal. In general covering of the electrode disintegrates at a slower rate than the metal center of the electrode. This action makes a deep recess at the arc end of the electrode and generates a jet action that tends to blow the molten metal away. Shielded metal arc cutting electrodes might be used for cutting stainless steel, aluminium, copper, bronze, , cast iron, nickel ,manganese, steel or alloy steels.
In the case of SMAC, additional metal which is because of the melting of the electrode has also to be eliminated, so the extra care need to be taken to remove this metal.
