Oxygen Arc Cutting:
Oxygen arc cutting is a method of piercing, cutting and gouging metals by the utilization of an electric arc and a stream of oxygen. A consumable electrode is utilized that consists of a ferrous metal tube covered with a non-conductive mineral covering. Oxygen is conveyed from the bore of the tube to the area heated up by the arc, generating an oxidation reaction in a manner similar to oxyfuel gas cutting.
Oxygen arc cutting is utilized to cut alloy steels aluminium and cast iron. These metals are hard to cut using oxyfuel gas cutting process. This procedure is also used on carbon steel. Oxygen arc cutting is primarily utilized in underwater applications.
