Technique for analysis:

Gas chromatography whereas gas as the mobile phase carries away the sample by a column, separations result and a different component appears at different time. Depending upon the nature of the stationary phase, GC could be classified within two categories as GSC and GLC. The present unit basically discusses the topic within three parts.

The first part is devoted to a recapitulation of fundamentals of gas chromatography. The significance of variant terms and concepts has been majorly dealt less than two heads-column efficiency and solvent efficiency.

The second part deals along with instrumentation involving the features of carrier gas. It starts along with carrier gas followed through discussion on the different types of columns and the stationary phases hold in these columns and ends with a critical evaluation of generally used detectors along with a gas chromatograph.

The last part deals along with utility of the technique for analysis. Here, the importance and methodology of sampling and the introduction of sample in the GC unit are elaborates. A few aspects of use of the method both for qualitative and quantitative analysis are discussed. It is hard to elaborate even a few of the representative applications of gas chromatography since of their numbers. Therefore, some typical applications from toxicology and environmental analysis are cited.
