Electrolytic determination of an organic compound:
Controlled potential coulometry offers a new step for the electrolytic determination of organic compounds. The Trichloroacetic acid and picric acid are quantitatively decreased at a mercury cathode. Coulometric methods allow the analysis of these compounds along with an accuracy of 0.1%.
Cl3CCOO - + H+ + 2e → Cl2HCCOO - + Cl-
Elctrolytic synthesis of all new organic compounds:
Synthesis of new species and novel chemical compounds are probable. No chemical reagents are needed because electron itself is the reagent for carrying out these reactions. There is no contamination of the products takes place.
