Analysis of radioactive materials:
The method is hugely adopted for the determination of pluotinum and uranium and therefore searched extensive use in the nuclear energy field. Reduction of UO22+ to U4+ could be carried out in H2SO4 medium along with a mercury pool cathode (- 0.6 V vs. SCE). Samples containing 7 - 75 mg of uranium have been analyzed within an accuracy of ± 0.l %.
Micro analysis:
Controlled potential coulometry is more popular than the electrogravimetric techniques because it prevents the last step of weighing the product. The tedious procedure of drying and weighing the electrode after each elecltrolysis is prevented. This method is especially meaningful for the determination of small amounts of analyte (0.01 - l mg) along with an of (± 0.5 %) accuracy.
