PL/SQL Code Blocks:
Data manipulation can be done by using the default form created through the Oracle Forms wizard. A Forms can created through the Forms Wizard can be customized to suit a commercial application or to map to the standard set for the application.
The Oracle Forms tool gives appropriate facilities to attach PL/SQL code blocks to ‘Events’ built into all Form objects. This permits the form to map to the object oriented standard of ‘Event driven’ form processing. ‘Events’ could be conceptualized as PL/SQL code holders which automatically execute the PL/SQL code when a specific event occurs. Based on the requirement of the application, an appropriate event must be selected and PL/SQL code in its rigid format must be written in the selected event. For instance if data required to be validated to ensure input or output or business rules, PL/SQL code should be written in the WHEN-VALIDATE- ITEM event. PL/SQL code written in this event gets executed when item navigation occurs after the data entry.
Every form holds at least one block, one canvas, one window and one or more items. Every item on the form has a group of attributes or characteristics that determine how the item behaves at, run time. The Form items are named so in which code in PL/SOL blocks used for form processing can reference them.
