Damp Proofing And Water Proofing
A building should remain free or dry from moisture traveling by walls, roofs or floors. If this condition is not content, the building might become damp. Dampness is the presence of gravitational or hygroscopic moisture. Dampness in building provides rise to unhygienic conditions apart from reduction in strength of structural elements of the building. Avoiding of dampness is, thus, one of the significant items of building design. Each building should be damp proof. The provisions made to prevent the entry of damp within a building are called as the damp proof courses (DPC). These are given at several levels of entry of damp into a building. Therefore provision of damp-proofing courses avoids the entry of moisture from walls, floors and basement of a building. The treatment given to the roofs of a building for the similar reasons is called as the waterproofing.
