Alkenes to alkanes
Alkenes are transformed to alkanes through the treatment with hydrogen over a finely divided metal catalyst like palladium, nickel, or platinum shown in figure.

This is an addition reaction because it includes the addition of hydrogen atoms to each end of the double bond. It is as well termed as a catalytic hydrogenation or a reduction reaction.
