Alkenes:
The dibromide itself is generally prepared from similar alkene and thus the reaction is not specifically helpful for the synthesis of alkenes. Though, it is helpful in protection strategy. Throughout a lengthy synthesis, it may be essential to protect a double bond so that it does not go through any not desired reactions. Bromine can be added to form the dibromide and removed after that by debromination to restore the functional group.
