Cold Dust:

It is utilized in green strength and dry strength moulding for protective mould surfaces against the activity of molten metal and developing surface finish of cast iron castings. It also decreases expansion and metal penetration. While the molten metal comes in contact along mould surfaces having cold dust, a gaseous envelope is formed that resists the fusion of sand to metal.
