Transformer Mounting Structure
Transformers could be mounted outdoors (Figures) in one of the following ways: Plinth mounting, H-pole mounting and direct mounting. We described these mountings, in brief.
1 Plinth mounting: The transformer is mounted on a plinth made of concrete. The plinth has to be higher than the surroundings. The techniques could be used for all sizes of transformers. While the distribution substations are plinth mounted, they are efficiently protected through fencing so as to avoid access to the apparatus through unauthorized persons.
2 H-pole mounting: The transformer could be mounted on cross- arms, fixed among two poles that are rigidly fastened to the poles. The transformer has two base channels that rest on the transformer mounting structure.
3 Direct mounting: The transformer is clamped straight to the pole by appropriate clamps and bolts. This method is used for transformers up to 25 kVA only.
