Functions and Features of a Vision System
The major functions of a vision system are:
- Identification
- Determination of position & angular orientation in relation to reference coordinates
- Positioning, fitting, and sorting
- Setup or adjustment of tools
- Measurements of distances, and angles
- Extraction & identification of specific parameters
- Visual testing for errors & completeness
Most of vision system has three features that facilitate the integration along a robot programming system:
- Parts to be recognized are explained by user-defined symbolic names that are represented by ASCII strings.
- Position & orientation of the workpiece are found out relative to a Cartesian coordinate system.
- Parts to be recognized are taught to the system by "showing". The symbolic name is also entered.
Some of the models of vision system include following:
- Linear vision system to measure distance.
- Camera system to identify workpieces, their locations, and their orientation.
- Elementary Photoelectric vision system
- Picture recognition sensors
- Self-Scanning Photo arrays
