Q. Write short note on Common vs. associated channel signalling.

Associated vs. Common channel signalling:

Out band signalling suffers from very limited bandwidth. Both are capable of having only a small signal repertoire. Trendin modern networking is to provide enhanced signalling facilities for the subscriber, switching system andtelephone administration. Such a need is met by common channel signalling which can be common channel signalling that may be implemented in two manners: channel associated mode4 and channel non-associated mode.  In the former, common signalling channel closely tracks trunk groups along the whole length of a connection.  In  the  letter,  there  is  no  simple  or  close  assignment  of  control channels to trunk groups. These modes are explained in Figure below. In the associated mode of operation demonstrated in Figure. Signalling paths for the speech paths A-B, A-C-B and B-D are A-B, A-C-B and B-D respectively. The term "associated signalling" in the CCS shouldn't be confused with in channel signalling. Signalling in CCS associated  mode  is  still  done  on  a  separate  signalling  channel;  only  that  signalling  path  passes  through  the  same  set  of  switches  as  does  the  speech  path. Network topologies of speech network and signalling network are the same. The benefits of the scheme are the economic implementation as well as simple assignment of trunk groups to signalling channels.
