The color in KMnO4 arises from an electronic transition, but it is actually not a d-d ... When the light is reflected (or transmitted) it is missing the frequencies of the light absorbed, and so it looks pink.

Mostly compounds of d block elements exibitcolour dueto d-d transistions between partially filled eg and t2g
but the reason for colour of KmnO4 and K2Cr2O7 is due to partial chanrge transfer between central atom and oxygen which causes colour
