What is the important role of Vitamin K

Vitamin K, as you may already know, is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays an  important role  in  blood  clotting. It was  first observed  in  1934 by Dam  and Schonheyder  that bleeding  in  chickens that was unrelated to vitamin C deficiency could  be  prevented by  alfalfa  or  decayed  fish  meal  effectively. It  was  possible  to  extract  the  active principle  with  ether  and  named  as vitamin K  by  Dam  in  1935. Dam, Karrer  and co-workers  isolated  pure  vitamin  K1  in  1939  and  in  the  same  year,  Doisy  and co-workers isolated pure vitamin K2.  Immediately after this,  synthesis of the vitamin was accomplished  by three different groups of workers.
