It also secretes human placental lactogen, human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG, that acts similarly to the hypophyseal LH) similar to stimulant and prolactin of the mammary glands and a series of hormonal peptides similar to the hormones of the hypothalamus-hypophysis axis.
