What is the effect of physical activity on health?
The Surgeon General's report (1996) summarizes the effects of physical activity on health as follows.
Overall Mortality: Higher levels of regular activity are associated with lower mortality rates among adults and even moderate activity on a regular basis results in lower mortality rates than those who are least active. The risk of several degenerative diseases is also reduced, as highlighted in Figure.
