Dr. Don McPhail and his colleagues hypothesized that the existence of the benthic and limnetic sticklebacks is the result of allopatric speciation. Although this may be true for some lakes, recent evidence suggests that the development of benthics and limnetics is due to sympatric speciation. Outline how these two forms of sticklebacks could have evolved from these two different modes of speciation.
