Q. What is Tape Backup?

Magnetic tapes are used these days in computers for the below purposes:

  • Backing up data stored in disks. It is essential to regularly save data stored on disk in another medium so that if accidentally data on disk are overwritten or if data get corrupted because of hardware failure, saved data may be written back on disk.
  • Storing processed data for further use. This is termed as archiving.
  • Data and program interchange between organizations.
