Shadow Mask is a metal sheet that has fine perforations (holes) in it and is situated a short distance before phosphor coated screen. In an attempt to overcome some flaws of Shadow masks because of their round holes, Sony presented Aperture grills (in their Trinitron technology) which are slots in an array of vertically arranged wires.
