What is Read only memory (ROM) and Define the Use of it?

A simple kind of ROM can be constructed from a decoder, Or gates, and a number of wires.

The Rom is used to implement complex combinational circuit within an IC or used as a memory device. The information is specified through the designer and embedded in the unit, to from the required information.

It consists of n inputs line every bit combination of input variables called as address. Every bit combination of the o/p is called as word and the no. of bits/word= The no. of o/p lines.

Consider ea 32X 8 ROM it consists of 32 words. Every has 8 bits.

ROM is able to be used to implement complex combinational circuit within a unit.

Illustration Design the combinational circuit using a ROM and The circuit accepts 3 bit no and generates an output binary no equal to the square of the input no.
