The term minicomputer introduced in 1960's when it was realized that numerous computing tasks don't need an expensive modern mainframe computers however can be solved by a inexpensive, small computer.
Mini computers provide support for multi-user environment with CPU time being shared among many users. The main importance in such computer is on processing power and less for interaction.
