What is meant by super scalar processor?

 Super scalar processors are designed to exploit more instruction level parallelism in user programs. This means that multiple functional units are used. With such an arrangement it is possible to start the implementation of several instructions in every clock cycle. This mode operation is known as super scalar execution.
