What is Intercellular Communication explain briefly?
Both plant and animal cells have developed means of communication between cells. In animals, specialized areas of the cell membrane called gap junctions are sites of transfer of material between cells. Tight junctions close off intracellular spaces by gluing together ajoining cells so as to not allow material to pass between them. Desmosomes are very strong junctions associated with cytoplasmic structural filaments, present in skin and other tissues subject to mechanical stress. Desomosomes are thought to have a supportive role.
Plant cell walls have pores called plasmodesmata that allow fusion of the plasma membranes of two adjoining cells.
Bacteria never have a nucleus but some members of the domain Archaea are known to contain a true nucleus.
