What is Eukaryotic Cells ?
Eukaryotic Cells : Most cells of higher organisms, and many unicells, contain a nucleus. Organisms whose cells contain a nucleus are called eukaryotes, from the Greek words meaning truly nuclear.
Eukaryotic cells also contain membrane-bound structures called organelles, which serve to perform functions such as digestion and energy transformation, and intracellular filaments, which provide structural support and and cellular motility. Plants, animals, protozoa, and fungi are all examples of eukaryotes.
We will describe the structures found in a typical eukaryotic cell, but you will find that cells differ greatly in size, shape, and distribution of organelles, reflecting a wide variation.
