What is digestion?
The ingested food material is broken down into smaller constituents which are assimilable by the blood. The process through which the major nutrients namely carbohydrates, proteins and lipids are converted to simple sugars, amino acids, fatty acids and glycerol respectively, while passing from mouth to small intestine, constitutes digestion.
