What is Colloids and Suspensions ?
Colloids and Suspensions : Colloids and suspensions are mixtures in which larger particles replace solutes. Colloids, or colloidal suspensions, are liquids containing fine particles that do not settle out over time.
The colloid can either be a sol, or liquid, or a gel, a semisolid that consists of a loose network of molecules. Gelatin is a sol when mixed with hot water. It forms a gel as it cools. In living organisms, changing from sol to gel state, or from gel to sol, is common when cells shift components or move. Gels maintain the shape of some cells and organisms.
Suspensions are liquids in which distributed particles settle out over time. Muddy water is an example.
