What is a salt bridge?

Salt bridge is a device used to link two electrodes on electrochemical cell. It maintains electrical neutrality and internal continuity. It is shown by two vertical lines separating two half cells. A salt bridge is constructed by ?lling a U shaped glass tube with saturated Potassium Chloride solution mixed with agar-agar jelly and solidifying the contents by cooling.
