Q. What do you mean by River Gauging?
Due to certain behavior of rivers the problem of gauging then is quit complex. The purpose of river gauging is to stabilize the river channel along a certain alignment with a certain cross section. In most part where the rainfall is concentrated in monsoon period lasting for about 3 months in a year, the river discharge in high floods may very from 50 to 100 times that of normal. All the Changes in river cross section and course take place of high stage of flow. The main object of river gauging is -
