Disk cache may be a part of RAM sometimes known as soft disk cache which is used to speed up access time on a disk. In latest technologies such memory can be a part of disk drive itself. Such memory is sometimes known as hard disk cache or buffer. Approximately all-modern disk drives contain a small amount of internal cache. Cycle time of cache would be about a tenth of main memory cycle time and its cost about 10 times cost per byte of main memory.
