What are the sorting functions of discrepancy of assortment?

The sorting function of discrepancy of assortment is performed through intermediaries who include the following activities:

Sorting Out: These involve breaking down a heterogeneous supply within separate stocks which are relatively homogeneous.

Accumulation: This concerns bringing similar stocks through a number of sources together within a larger homogeneous supply. Wholesalers accumulate changes goods for retailers, and the retailers accumulate goods for their customers.

Allocation: This refers to breaking a homogeneous supply down within smaller and smaller a lot. Goods received within truck loads are sold into case lots. A buyer of case bags in turn sells individually all items. The allocation process usually coincides along with geographical dispersal and successive movement of products through origin to end consumer.

Assorting: It is the building up of an assortment of products for resale into association along with each other. Wholesalers made assortment of goods for retailers, and all retailers build assortment for their customers.
