What are the phytoplankton and the zooplankton?

Phytoplankton and zooplankton are parts of the plankton. The phytoplankton comprises the autotrophic floating beings: cyanobacteria and algae. The zooplankton is produced by the heterotrophic planktonic beings: small crustaceans, protozoans, cnidarians, larvae, etc.
