Distinct types of proteins
Two distinct types of proteins are known: fibrous and globular proteins.
Fibrous proteins are insoluble in water and are physically tough, which enables them to play a structural role.
In contrast, globular proteins are generally soluble in water and may be crystallized from solution. They have a functional role in living organisms, all enzymes being globular proteins.
