What are the cationic and neutral ligands, Chemistry

Assignment Help:

Q. What are the Cationic and neutral ligands?

The names of all anionic ligands end in '0' replacing the final 'e' in endings. Sometimes endings are also changed. Thus the given ligands acquire the following endings:

Ligands                                                     Endings

F -(fluoride)                                              fluoro '

CI-(chloride)                                           chloro

02- (oxide)                                               0x0

OCN- (cyanate)                                      cyanato

Cationic and neutral ligands have no special ending. There are a few exception like' aqua' for Ha, ammine for NH3. Carbonyl for  CO. and nitrosyl for NO groups.

The number of ligands is indicated by adding prefixes di-, tri-, and tetra-. penta-, hexa- ek. for two, three, four, five, six. ew. Entitles of  the ligand. For example, [CoiNH3)a]CI3 will be called hexaarnminecobalt chloride.  If the ligands are big complicated groups, instead of di-, tri-, temt-, penta- prefixes we  use bis-, his-, tetrakis-, pentakis- etc. For instance Cu(CH3COCHCOCH3)2 is called  bis(acety1acetonato) copper.
