Q. What are the basic use of Sand rammer?

It is the apparatus of make specimens of moulding sand, for tests such as - permeable test, the various strength tests, and shatter test etc.

It consists of a C.I. body with base. A weight is carried at the upper end of the rammer rod. The weight is made to fall by operating the rammer lever attached to a cam. To make a sand specimen, the specimen ram tube is filled with a specified amount of sand. The ram head is moved up by means of weight lever attached to an eccentric disc and the ram tube is placed on the ram tube stand.

Three blows are given to the sand by dropping the weight by means of rammer lever. This will result in the production of cylindrical sand specimen 50.8 mm Φ × 50.8 mm long. As a check, it should be ensured that after 3 blows, a mark on the rammer rod should fall between the marks provided on the rammer stand for this purpose. After this, the specimen ram tube is removed from the stand and the sand specimen is ejected out with the help of specimen pusher.
