Nouns can be replaced by pronouns. Objective pronouns can be used to replace nouns in the direct object. The objective pronouns, like subjective pronouns, come in first-, second-, and third-person singular and plural forms.

When replacing the noun in the subject, use subjective pronouns (I, you, he, she, it, we, you, they).

The objective pronouns are as follows:

Singular

2. you
3. him, her, it

Plural

1. us
2. you
3. them

Subject: Mary McLeod Bethune could be replaced by "She" (which is a subjective pronoun).

Direct object: the Bethune-Cookman School could be replaced by "it" (an objective pronoun).
