What are objective pronouns?

Nouns can be replaced by pronouns. Objective pronouns can be used to replace nouns in the direct object. The objective pronouns, like subjective pronouns, come in first-, second-, and third-person singular and plural forms.

When replacing the noun in the subject, use subjective pronouns (I, you, he, she, it, we, you, they).

The objective pronouns are as follows:

Singular

1. me
2. you
3. him, her, it

Plural

1. us
2. you
3. them

Example

Mary McLeod Bethune founded the Bethune-Cookman School.

Subject: Mary McLeod Bethune could be replaced by "She" (which is a subjective pronoun).

Direct object: the Bethune-Cookman School could be replaced by "it" (an objective pronoun).
