Mutually Exclusive
Events are mutually exclusive if they cannot occur at the same time. For example, if you roll one die, you cannot roll both 1 and 2. Events A and B are mutually exclusive if their intersection is empty,. This means that they do not share any common elements. Mutually exclusive events can be shown with a Venn diagram:
Property: If A and B are mutually exclusive, then P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B). In words, this means that the probability of A OR B occurring is equal to the probability of A occurring plus the probability of B occurring.
