Commutator:

The commutator is a form of rotating switch placed among the armature and external circuit and so arranged that it will reverse the link with the external circuit at the instant of every reversal of current in the armature. It having of a series of hard drawn copper bars or segments arranged side- by -side forming a cylinder and insulated from every other by mica segments.
