Vibrational modes of carbon dioxide molecule representation, Physics

Assignment Help:

How are vibrational modes of carbon dioxide molecule represented?

Generally the modes are represented through three integers (mnq):

a. (moo) represents Symmetric stretching and it means that (100) is the basic mode of vibration into the Symmetric stretching mode. The frequency of such type mode is 4.2 x 1013 Hz. (200) will be the second harmonic or the first overtone.

b. (ono) is the representation of the Bending mode. It implies (010) is the basic mode along with frequency 2 x 1013Hz. (020) is the subsequent mode whose frequency is 4x 013Hz.

c. (ooq) represents Asymmetric stretching along with the highest fundamental frequency 7x 1013Hz. It is designated as (001).
