For preparing a good road project, the following surveys and investigations are needed:

(a)        Traffic Surveys

(b)       Topographical Surveys

(c)        Drainage Studies

(d)       Soil Surveys

(e)        Pavement Investigations

Of these, soil surveys will be dealt with in Unit 3, and Pavement Investigations will be dealt with in further.
