What are the types of firms that securities firms and investment banking industry included?

Into the USA, the securities firms and investment banking industry comprises several types of firms as follows:

a. National full-line firms function both as broker-dealers and underwriters. The main US firms are Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch.

b. National full-line firms which specialise more into corporate finance and are highly active within trading securities; illustrations are Goldman Sachs and Smith Barney.

c. Particular investment bank subsidiaries of commercial banks, as like J.P. Morgan Chase

d. Particular discount brokers, stockbrokers which conduct trading activities for customers without giving any investment advice (as like Charles Schwab).

e. Particular electronic trading securities firms (as like E*trade) enabling trades onto a computer through the internet.

f. Regional securities firms concentrating into the service of customers of a specified geographical region.
