Perform a status assessment of the third Elaboration iteration. DO NOT GENERALISE. Assess each activity separately and assess it against the outcomes specified for the activity. Generate a detailed iteration plan for the fourth Elaboration iteration (EIP4). As usual, plan the next iteration AS IF all work items were completed successfully and then ADD incomplete items to the next iteration plan.
Aim to achieve the Life Cycle Architecture Milestone (LCAM) in this fourth iteration. This milestone involves demonstration of the executable architecture - ie end-to-end support for the most difficult, risky, critical, core use case identified in the system. It also involves a ‘snapshot' of existing requirement, architecture, and design documentation, and the establishment of a robust and realistic implementation plan for the Construction phase to be carried out next semester.
Ideally, you should not be planning to complete all the items listed above in the last iteration of the Elaboration phase: some of them should have been completed in earlier iterations.
Remember to plan production of an Elaboration Phase Status Assessment, and an overall Project Status Assessment.
