Assessment Task 1
Graduate Skills Workshop - Academic Writing.
Students will be given a paraphrasing and Summarizing task to be done in class, during the tutorial period and are allowed to carry in only paper bilingual Dictionaries.
Will be explained in detail during week 2.
Assessment Task 2
Class Participation/In class case study
Students are strongly encouraged to actively participate in the class and tutorials through in class recitation and expressing their opinions, insights and their learning from the course. Alternatively, students can participate by replying to occasional blogs from the lecturer regarding the subject matter.
Students that participate meaningfully and explain valuable perspectives in class discussions will earn 1 mark for every instance up to a maximum of 2 marks per weekly session and a maximum of 10 marks for the whole course.
e.g. A student that participates in class discussions 5 times during the whole course will receive 5 marks out of a possible 10 marks for this assessment task.
Assessment Task 3
Mid-Term test will cover following topics from the prescribed text book:
- Introduction to Management; Recommended reading:
- The Evolution of Management Thinking;
- The Business Environment & Corporate Culture;
- Managing in a global environment;
Assessment Task 4
Group Project Case Analysis
Report worth 20% and Presentation worth 10% Purpose:
To understand your ability to give professional business presentation and to prepare business report based on real world business environment regarding a practical example of management. This assessment also aims to assess your ability to work in a team.
Presentation topic:
Students need to group themselves in groups of three to five (may change depending on class size). A case study will be allocated to each group. Make sure you identify the general management issues covered by the case study. Spend some time researching management theories, expert opinions and current management practice regarding the said issues to prepare for the presentation. Ensure that you apply the relevant management theories covered in this unit when analysing and recommending actions in your report.
You will need to submit a group report. For the presentation you are required to have a power point presentation of at least 2 slides for each group member.
You will be evaluated on the following criteria:
How well you have addressed the requirements of the task.
How professionally you have developed that group report.
The degree of clarity and structure in the report and presentation.
Your ability to communicate to an audience and the degree to which you have used presentation aids appropriately.
The Group Report must be submitted on the day of the presentation and must be presented in full report format, which includes:
Title page and Executive Summary (Key findings of your group in 3 paragraphs)
Table of Contents
Section numbers and headings
Introduction (key case facts and challenges)
Body (analyses of symptoms and problems; alternatives)
Conclusion (Recommendations of the group)
Full in-text referencing (citing four academic sources, including a minimum of one journal article)
