System Software
System software is a group of programs written to service another programs. Some system software (e.g., compilers editors and file management utilities) processes are difficult but determinate information structures. Other systems application (e.g., operating system components drivers telecommunications processors) process largely indefinite data. In both cases the systems software area is characterized by serious interaction with computer hardware heavy usage by numerous users; concurrent operation that needs scheduling resource sharing and sophisticated process management ; multiple external interfaces and complex data structures.
